There are more and more upscale birthday parties being thrown as you get older. Everyone is more mature and sophisticated and they want to have more classy events. There are also a lot of galas or upscale events that are thrown by different organizations or even your job. I recently was invited to a “red carpet” themed birthday party. Some people think that they have to spend a lot of money to fit the theme of different parties they attend, but I have a few tips that will help you save and still look FAB!
Visualize your look!
Since this is a last minute idea, less is always more. Shop for a basic dress with little to no shine or sparkle. This also helps keep the price down. Once you start looking at dresses with more details, the prices will start to go up.
You can find GOLD in the clearance section. Most of the time it takes a lot of patience and an open mind to shop in the clearance section. A lot of dresses look like nothing on the hanger, but once you try it on you may love it! Don’t rule anything out. I walked pass the dress that I chose about 5 times before I decided to try it on.
Here is a list of a few stores in the mall where I’ve found dresses under $20 on clearance:
Now these dresses won’t have the best quality, but they will definately give you the “look” for one night at the last minute.
If I have no luck at these places, I go to my next favorite thing THRIFT STORES!
You can find a flowy bridesmaid dress, prom dress or just a basic gown that someone wore once. Stay tuned for my upcoming article on how to thrift in STYLE!
After you’ve found your simple gown, the next step is to make your look POP. What you will need is a fabulous accessory. I personally prefer a statement necklace. It draws everyone to look at your face and it adds that pop of glamour to make it a red carpet look. You can also choose statement earrings or bracelets. Since there is little to no sparkle in your dress you can really jazz up your accesories if you’d like. Add a pop of color or sparkle when it comes to your clutch or purse if your dress is a nude or a toned down color. If your dress is bright then do the opposite, tone down your clutch or purse.
Take a look at my last minute red carpet look. I found this dress the day before my event and added one of my Carise Creations choker necklaces for that POP of glamour. I decided to pin my hair up to so it wouldn’t take away from the necklace and I wore a basic nude pump. I chose a bright red clutch that I had in my closet. It created a nice contrast with my blush dress very well. Very last minute, very chic, and very affordable. Check it out!
