Hey, yall! Let’s make a DIY dreambox! I made this a couple of years ago and the video did so well on my Tik Tok Craft page that I decided to write a short blog about it. As an owner of a handmade business, it doesn’t take much for my supplies to get super crazy and unorganized. When running any business you have to stay organized to run things smoothly. I made this DIY dream box for my studio to help my business stay as organized as possible. This is a step by step article on the tools I used and how I made this dream box.
If you want a few video visuals check out my tik tok videos here! Part 1 and Part 2. Also I have a DIY Dreambox supply list on my Amazon Storefront.
I was inspired by the original dreambox that most crafters and makers absolutely LOVE! (Pictured below)
If it’s in your budget, definitely go for it, if not here is an idea for a more affordable option.
1) Get your bookshelves
Get 4 of these room essentials 5 tier bookshelves from Target. They are usually $40 each. When I first made my DIY dream box in 2021, they were $35 each. They went up a little in price, but this project is still much more affordable than the other craft boxes.
2) Get some door hinges
You will need 4 door hinges to open and close your book shelves. These are found at any home improvement store. They are an affordable price costing just a few dollars each. There is no specific kind. Just make sure they are for doors and choose a color that you like.
I got mine from Home Depot. Here are some screenshots of a few other examples.
3) Wheels
You will need 16 wheels to complete the bookshelf. Here is a photo to see where to place them on the bottom of the bookshelves. There should be 4 wheels on each corner of each completed bookshelf.
Make sure they are swivel wheels. Amazon has really good heavy duty pack of Caster Wheels.
You should also be able to find these at any home improvement store. It’s best to use the ones with the square base that you can put screws in.
4) Contact Paper
This next item is optional, but if you want a pretty back splash and if you want the front of your dream box to have a pattern you can get some sticky contact paper to put on your Dreambox. This is the peel and stick wallpaper I used from Amazon.
Here is a clip from my Tik Tok Video for reference.
Now Make your Dreambox!
Once you have the supplies that you need all you have to do is put it together. The bookshelves come with instructions in each box. Once they are all assembled, then you add the other details to make it into the Dreambox. Here is a photo of the supplies I used to put everything together. I used a hammer, a drill, screwdriver, and I purchased a box of half an inch screws for the caster wheels.
